Within Temptation sounds NOTHING like Evanescence; I'm not sure why they're even being compared. Evanescence is way more commercial than Within Temptation and their music doesn't even resemble each other. Is it because they both have female vocalists? LAME

I agree with you Willie; I couldn't stand Mother Earth. There were a couple of decent tracks off of that album but Silent Force was much better overall IMO. The Heart of Everything has a couple of good songs (and Sharon's voice is undeniably amazing) but it sounds like the band is leaning towards a more commercial sound on this album than on previous ones. Plus it gets boring after a while; I don't think I've listened through it once so far.

Within Temptation sound like Evanescence with a bonus orchestra.

how's that? i would never hear a song by Within Temptation and think "oooooh Evanescence" or vice versa.

well I do. I recognise the same song structures, the same methods of songwriting, the same type of lyrics, similar band lineup, except for the orchestra/keyboards which Lee does herself in the form of Piano and WT has a keyboardist for.

Goth metal? eh...

Def better than Evanescence, but they seem to be moving more towards hard "radio" rock.

Vocal are amazaing. I always respect when a female vocalist can keep up, and even lead in this style of music.

vocals are truly amazing. but songs like "what have you done now" sound like they were written for radio. hand of sorrow is the best song on the album by far. worst song is probably stand my ground, since that song's chorus is a direct copycat off of the diecast song, fractured.

this album was a complete waste of my $$$... the songs were repetitive(silent hour)... generic(what have you done)... and just plain f*&#% crap!!!

This band would be so much better if every song didnt sound the same. Yeah the music is somewhat creative, but only compaired to other bands.

I think that The Cross is actually a strong point of the album, exactly because Sharon displays a variety of vocal styles. I wonder what you disliked about the duet as well. I guess it's just the curse of singles which become popular only to get bashed afterwards.

Overall, pretty nice review, with a bunch of typos and grammar errors. Also, comparing Sharon to an angel seemed a bit over the top, but whatever.

Their other albums are better. There isn't anything bad here, but nothing particularly stands out. I hope their next album is an improvement.

Am I the only one who enjoyed this album? I found just about all the songs on this album amazing.(except for Final Destination which is the only song i haven't heard yet) Sharons voice is amazing as usual and some of the songs on here have strong representations of their previous work.(i.e. The Cross or Hands of Sorrow, Forgiven, etc) The single "What Have You Done" does sound like it was made for the radio, but thats not really a bad thing.(at leasts its not justin bieber or miley cyrus!) I thought it was catchy and well written. Just because they want to expand on what they originally did(yes ive heard songs from Mother Earth, Enter, and The Dance), doesn't mean its a bad thing. WT has matured alot since then. I'lll admit, going mainstream is a huge change for a band or singer, and it normally doesn't work out. But it will for some and WT is proof of that.

:D I think I like the band all the more after the silent force (which was the album I got to know them with). Before that I like just a few songs proven by the fact that I have never listened anyone of those albums from beginning to end just for once. However I think this one shows an over-stretched effort to have things done. That they weren't exactly creative, going with the flow of a muse, but pressed to have a record for having a record. I can listen to it but not fall in love with it. 3,5 I guess.

Why the hell do you guys think this album sucks. I mean nightwish is commercial as well but you guys don't bitch on that. Within Temptation has brought another great albums that millions of metalheads love. If this bands sucks, why is that they have great album reviews and are still respected by many other bands you know today. So why don't you take your bias opinions else where if you are going to put stupid comments like that. (I listen to all metal)
