Nicely updated review

Why the Joz avatar though? Have I missed something while I was away?

You missed people "dressing up" as other mxers for Halloween. strangerdanger is ikik, and dans107 made a really good Jarviss. At least I think that's what's going on here. Good review as well, I've been meaning to check out more stuff by these guys.

Oh okay. Forgot that would be going on round about now. I'm so out of touch.

I've been listening to this album alot, and I think 'A Warm Place' is about drugs, just the whole calmness of the track, its as if the person being described in The Downward Spiral starts using heroin to take away the pain. I've heard decriptions from heroin users that it makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside....I don't know if its true or not, but thats my take on this strange, yet beautiful piece.

i am HUGE nin fan and i must say this is one of the best cds i´ve ever heard in my opinion, but i also think THE FRAGILE is his most mature work yet.
i agree with those who say that this album is about different stages of depression.
a lot about this has been said so i´m only gonna add a few things.
* i think march of pigs is about the media and the fascination of building idols just for the pleasure of taking them down.
*closer is about finding comfort in power among others, i think it is some analogy on politics, religion and sex.
i think everything else has been pretty much said.
GREAT review :thumb: though i would have given ruiner a higher rating, it has a very simple and nice solo.
p. s. broken is awesome too has it been reviewed already?

Good review, but I must disagree with A Warm Place. I think it should get a 5/5, and to me it represents a last look on the beauty of the world, the song just sounds like that to me.

I soughta like this record, haven't really listened to it all the way through, but it's pretty good. Very explicit.

People seem to think that Closer is a serious song, a seduction in a way. I think the opposite, I think it's a sarcastic way of showing that men treat women like crap. All of these excuses that men use "I wanna fvck you like an animal" "you bring me closer to god" "help me, I'm broke up on my insides. Help me, I've got no soul to tell" "help me get away from my self".

I was surpised to find heavy guitar riffing in Heresy. Good song.

I lurve March of the Pigs. The drums are cool, and the grinding synthesizer.

No doubt the best song on this album is RUINER! Erg I can't BELIEVE it's so unappreciated! The lyrics are very... odd. "How'd you get so big... how'd you get so strong... how'd it get so hard.... how'd it get so long". Maybe it's someone sarcastically teasing the subject? I think the whole song is from the point of view of someone putting down the subject. And that really high-pitched weird sound at the start (with the drums) reminds me of Kid A by Radiohead.

Good album, PHM is cheesy, I haven't got the Fragile. I think I'll preorder With Teeth, it sounds good.

I've listened to this a few times, and I just don't see the greatness. I love A Warm Place and Hurt is way up there on my 'Greatest Songs I've Heard' list, but as an album, I feel it lacks. There's too many "meh" tracks. Closer owns, though.

Yes, excellent review. Favourites are definitely Piggy, March of the pigs, closer, the becoming, eraser, ruiner, hurt, downward spiral and... REPTILE!!!

I think Downward Spiral is about the man TRYING to commit suicide but instead fails and only suffers severe damage

Then in Hurt, he decides that he will keep himself and find a way.

Everytime i hear big man with a gun, i always think of a really muscular man running down town with a machine gun...This Message Edited On 09.16.05

"Ruiner" and "Mr. Self Destruct" are actually my personal favourites on TDS aside from "Reptile." I personally would have given them the 5/5 instead of "Closer", which tends to get on my nerves at times. Of course, I do not base this on the fact that "Closer" is 'popular' and a well-known song. I do like your opinion on the song, and I agree... but I think the song's effect is exhausted after a while, especially the infamous "I wanna fuck you like an animal" line.

Personally I think 'Big Man With A Gun' is about this person's delusional belief that sex, possibly rape, will make everything better, knowing how fucked up his life has gotten.

'The Warm Place' to me signifies an attempt to make everything better, lose all the pessimistic thoughts. It could possibly the high he receives from taking drugs, heroin, as it ties into the line 'The needle tears a hole' in 'Hurt' though in turn, he realises that he can't help himself and he resorts to his old thoughts of sex, pain and drugs.

either way the whole album is a reflection of "the low life" i kind of see it as an overview of the things people do. i dont think its a story, its a buch of stories seeing as closer is about sex and big man with a big gun is about cumming all over someone it seems its a reflection of a fucked up society

Giving "Heresy" 4/5 is, well...heresy.
