Why did no one talk Bjork out of making Declare Independence
Hearing it for the 2nd time and it's deff her worst song I've heard

because it was too catchy + too many yes men simping + terrible judgement
|

yeah it sure would be easy to talk bjork out of making an anti-colonialist song

It's not really the subject of the song that's the problem, but the actual execution/way she presents it is just awful
Like it sounds like I'm listening to an amateur one-off garage project come up with lyrics from the top of her head, but it's Bjork on her 6th album (13th if you count her pre-Debut stuff and the 2 soundtracks she did)
This entire album sounds fairly amateur for her actually
tbh it'd be a 2 if it wasn't for "Innocence"

i think given the subject, it would be the song where she would not budge, but yea
i like it but i get why people might not

Okay now that I've given this 6 listens, here's a rank:
1.Innocence - An aggressive fun beat, great lyrics, and a shining light on this album. It's basic and not wrapped up in trying to be unique, but for an album like this, that's a standout. - 5/5
2.Earth Intruders - Honestly mostly great. Fun beat, interesting lyrics, but WHY with the foghorns for a third of the song? Has an interesting political message. - 4/5
3.My Juvenile - I think for my first few listens, I was so damn tired of the crappy songs, that I couldn't even focus on this one. Anohni comes back to piss on it a little, but he's only really here for backups, so it doesn't destroy the song. - 4/5
4.Vertebræ by Vertebræ - Bjork decides that this brass sample is so good, it should just repeat over and over, but the sample isn't that good. It's a shame because her vocal performance here is actually great. These vocals deserved more. - 3/5
5.Wanderlust - Pretty boring in most regards, but I guess the concept is cool. Another addition to the Isobel saga apparently, and certainly my least favorite. - 2.5/5
6.Hope - Bjork uses African instruments to sing a song about a suicide bomber. WHY? I mean it's original... and it's not boring, but WHY? Don't even tell me this song isn't random in a bad way. And the foghorns are back, but only briefly. - 2.5/5
7.I See Who You Are - Bjork's attempt at Chinese folk mixed with some electronic sounds. Really forgettable and potentially a forced attempt as her "world music" theme. - 2.5/5
8.Pneumonia - Did Bjork write this one just to test the listener's patience? Slow french horns and random lyrics she wrote while she had pneumonia. - 2/5
9.The Dull Flame of Desire - Just found out that this is a translated Russian poem. Doesn't make it any better. Jumps between being bland and annoying. I don't like Anohni's voice at all. - 2/5
10.Declare Independence - Cool concept for a song, but that execution is just annoying. The lyrics are lazy and cutesy, and seem improvised. I kinda like the music at times though? Whatever, "Pluto" exists and is actually good, so I don't need this garbage. - 2/5

I feel like I've spent too much time with an album I don't like just because I like the artist's previous 5 albums... time to move onto a new one
