this album is a masterpiece, i would never consider them emo...no matter what you think, no matter how clean some of the songs may be, and they break into jazz parts(because i think that's what you're referring too also), it's no where near emo. My favorite song is aesthetic, the song is all off time it's amazing(you have to listen to it to understand..some parts the guitar and drums are like playing into one another..slow, then fast, slow then fast)
p.s. idk calling it emo is downright evil to me considering some of the bands that come out of that genre, no matter how "emotional" the lyrics may be..which i also love btw :thumb:

It has nothing to do with lyrics. "Shevanel Part 2" is an emo song. That is fact.
And those breaks are not jazz, I know jazz when I hear it. They are emo breaks. Sorry.

They're really different, so check some songs out before you buy.
| | | Mordecai is an amazing song. Good review.
| | | I think that this is possibly the greatest album ever made. I'm in love with it. As soon as I get money, I'm buying it. The death metal parts sound like "run-of-the-mill" death metal to me, which is nothing to complain about, because I love death metal and while this doesn't soon too much different to me than the other stuff I listen to, it's up there with the best. Those pops and squeals on the guitars are awesome. I like the grind sounding parts as well, especially in "Mordecai". Then the "emo" parts are amazing. They pull it off better than any "emo" band I have ever heard. The lead parts are always so uplifting too, like in the middle of "Ad a dglgmut".
Once the new CD Reviews site opens, I'll be doing a full review. SubtleDagger, your review was wicked too, I agree almost totally with it.
| | | Wow, that was a great review.
I own this album and have had it for a while. It's such a great album. I love "Mordecai" and "Ad a dglgmut" where everything is heavy and then it changes complete genres in the middle of the song. "(Shevanel Take 2)" was completely unexpected, in my opinion. It's a great song nonetheless. Two of my band mates love Between The Buried and Me, as well, and my lead guitarist actually learned most of "Mordecai."
Once again, great review.

Dude there is very minimal emo in this and not at the parts you're describing. A lot of the song structures are emo-like, for example, "Mordecai" and "Reaction," which have a huge split in the song between the brutal sections and the melodic sections, and also they get very thrashy at times, which runs them along the line with screamo bands like pageninetynine.

Right, that's what I'm talking about.
I knew this argument was coming, and I really don't want to get into it that much.
