To quote myself from a different review of this album, "This album riffs like a motherfucker in a way none of their other records do. While I enjoy their later albums, they are definitely focused on shredding, compared to the absolutely primal feelings evoked here."

Just skip Burning Red and Supercharger and continue forward as if they didn't exist.

I always thought the burning red would have been so much better if it had the same recording style of this or the more things change, ross robinsons production job neuters that album for me. Some good jams on there though, supercharger is pretty much dog shit though.

"neutered" great way to describe it. Although I'd argue the songs just plain suck too, though.

I think this is a tad overrated. Sure, it is great but I prefer some of their other albums over this.

It has like a 4.0 average and you're at a 4.5. How it is it overrated? lol

An album doesn't have to be a 'classic' to get a 5, hence brand new albums (pun intended) getting loads of 5s. This is definitely old enough to warrant that opinion though.

Obviously some of us give out more 5s than others, but yeah, based on the fact that your rating is higher than the average, it is weird to call it overrated.

It is a classic though. This thing is a riff clinic pretty much from the word go all the way to the end. And it's their debut album. This is not my top Machine Head, I prefer Blackening and ...TMTC, but this album totally deserves the cred it gets.

Are you implying my opinion is invalid because of that? I like that record more for sentimental reasons. The guitar-work is better on this. TMTC is still sick though, don't know what you're on about.

I feel it's a totally shitty record. But I'm just messing with ya man, whatever you like is what you like. m/

TMTC is a polarizing album like Roots was back in the day. A lot of people hate it but it has a lot of fans. It has a 3.5 average on here which puts it in the upper bracket of MH albums. Also saying shit like 'whatever you like is what you like' is really condescending, just letting you know unless you intended it that way, in which case, gj.
