Good review. It will be interesting (by years end) to see how this compares critically and commercially to the new Marilyn Manson album, given their prior history and all.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Just got it a while ago, I'm on The Warning. Fantastic so far, although Me, I'm Not is a little meh.

EDIT: Finished it, I like how the amount of static increases with every song. Great album, gonna listen to it a little more before I give my rating and favorite songs. This Message Edited On 04.17.07

Absolute genius! Trent Reznor never disappoints. Year Zero is an absolute masterpiece, beginning to end. Trent continues to produce powerful works of art that kick the music world right in the chest. It the best feeling in the world to be able to trust in an artist, and know that each and every release is nothing short of genius. It is evident, the minute you listen to Year Zero, that the amount of time, effort and heart that went into it, was enormous. Trent Reznor and Nine Inch Nails always add a fresh, new, unique and powerful element to today's music. While there are some quality artists out there, there is also a large quantity of recycled crap. You never know what you are going to get, from one cd to the next. With Trent Reznor, you do know. You know you are going to get a quality, mind blowing work of art. Thank you Trent and please don't ever stop.

Regards,

Hogman49

The way Trent was describing it.. he was making it seem as if this would be one his most "hard to listen to" and alienating albums that he ever made. He even commented that he might lose some fans after this album.. because it would be so different.

That's not what I got from this review at all....

Excellent review. A step up from With Teeth but still not that great an album as a whole. Some songs are just fucking blinding and while some are just shit!

I need some NIN, would this or Downward Spiral be the best place to start?

I simply love the concept and how it flows, I don't see a single "bad" song on here, though there are some average ones.

Highlights: The Beginning of the End, The Good Soldier, Capital G, The Great Destroyer, In This Twilight

I do think that the part before the insane mess on The Great Destroyer should have been a bit longer, and something about the chorus of Me, I'm Not annoys me.

Great album.

Ah what the hell - enough of hearing you guys talk about the album Im getting this. But I really don't think the Downward Spiral is what its cracked up to be. I liked Pretty Hate Machine better, I got into an argument with my SAT tutor about that today...

This album was pretty good, it had it highs, but also some songs kinda felt B-sideish, and hella cheesey. "The Great Destroyer" was so cheasey with that chant I laughed my ass off when I heard the first time, and still laughing. "Survivalism" is a very good single and well desirved. "Capital G", "Vessel", "Zero-Sum" and "My Violent Heart" are highlights too.

Top 5:

Capital G

My Violent Heart

Vessel

Survivalism

Vessels

Really?

I kinda despise 'My Violent Heart' at times...I don't see what's so great about it.

"Zero-Sum" is just incredible...

I still can't tell if I love or hate My Violent Heart yet, don't know why. I think that Zero-Sum is better when fitting into the album as a whole rather than on its own.

I'm interested in getting this, as I loved TDS. I really like In This Twilight right now.
