got this album today, my first from PT. I figured i might as well try listening to a non metal band, so i decided with PT, since they have had great reccomendations and that Steven Wilson helped prodce Opeth.

I'm so far thinkng that this is pretty great album, that will most likely grow on me with time. Blackest Eyes, Trains, Gravity Eyelids, Prodigal, and the creator has a mastertape are my favoritwes currently, wedding nails is great too.

I'm having my confirmation this sunday, and will probably get lots of money then, i want to get deadwing and FOABP from PT next, any other suggestions from PT though if they don't have those albums?

And Steve Wilson did the chorus on Bleak, the "devious movements in your eyes," then mikael did the echo part, then wilson did the next line, followed by akerfeldt, then they both sand the rest of the chorus i believe.

Heartattack in a laybvy is starting to grow on me, that's got to be one of the most beautiful song ever. Trains is my favorite overall though.

Dude...you put my review to shame. Although, mine is really fanboyish...I was the first person to write about PT on this site so I can hold that one up high

Oh well, I did write it back in early 04...sue me :P
Trains is despite its clear Oasis overtones a very catchy and solid track overall
Don't hear any such overtones.

Still good review.

Edit: I take it back, there are, but only minimal

An album that achieves "rarified air status" Is there because it is one of my all-time favorite albums. Evidence of Steven Wilson's immaculate sense of melody. PT's earlier material will always hold a special place in my musical heart. SMS and Signify.

The vocal harmonies ending 'Trains' and 'Heartattack in a Layby' get me every time, especially the former.

As for the rest of the album, the track I like the least is probably 'Prodigal', which is still a very solid song.

Gotta love the heavier moments such as 'Wedding Nails', 'The Creator Has a Mastertape' and 'Strip the Soul' (has a very Stone Temple Pilots grungy feel in the choruses).

I'm torn between a 4.5 to 5 as with all the PT records I own as of now.

This album took me awhile to get into it, but after a few listens I fell in love with this album. Blackest Eyes is a brilliant album opener and then followed by my favorite song of all time 'Trains'. Every time I listen to this album I love it more and more.

I'm a new Porcupine Tree fan, with last years release of 'Fear of a Blank Planet'. So I was deciding which album to get next and after reading this wondrous review, I have decided that In Absentia will be my next Porcupine Tree album.

Trains

that song is so good, it sends chills down my spine every time I listen to it. It's probably my favorite of their's if not one of my favorite songs in general.

I gave this another listen, haven't since August.

I liked it much more than I remember liking it before, though I still don't care much for Collapse the Light Into Earth. Almost as good as Deadwing.

I really need to get Stupid Dream, I've only had In Absentia, Deadwing, and FOABP for like 6 months...need more PT.

This entire album is good. It took a while to grow on me but I really dig it now.
