'Never go non-chronological.'
I vehemently disagree with this line of thinking, even if it could be the case here. You should instead never be restricted by chronology, there are times when it makes sense & others where it doesn't.

Susan Boyle of course!
Not a band, I know.

Good News gets unwarranted hate 24/7.
Non-chronological won't fuck with you, every album they've made is good in their own ways. No two are the same imo

People sometimes...just get into something
Chronological is generally the ideal but unless you’re totally academic about music it’s just not how you naturally approach finding music

I'm actually a bot, so I was never programmed to do anything "naturally"

I never hear a song I like and go, "Wait, no - give not into temptation. I must locate this artist's debut and listen proper."

Imagine going chronological with an artist like Bowie, that's a lot of albums & you know exactly where the good stuff is likely to be, no sense in starting with the s/t. Of course if you get REALLY into his music & want to see his development as an artist then sure, but that can wait.

My original iPod shuffle is forever on "play in order." Shuffle is banned in the house. Just like other non-essentials like fun and spontaneity.

I was intentionally baiting, shuffle is a banned word in my house as well tbh. Full albums till I die.

I just listen to the songs and albums that interest me in a given moment. There are a lot of bands that I just wouldn't have gotten into if I had gone chronologically.

You gotta have a method. Like me. I play every song on an album at the same time. If they don't line up properly, I 3.0 it. It's worked well so far.

If it’s a band where I’m reasonably interested in hearing the whole discog and the discog is reasonably manageable in size and the (supposed) album highlights are generally early in the career, then I go chronological. If the discog is huge and most people consider the 10th album the best by a notable margin, well I’m definitely going to just start with that 10th album. If I start with a later album I’ll usually go reverse chronological order. But I generally prefer not to go in a random order just because it decreases the chances that I’ll actually get around to every album.

‘This is a Long Drive’ is probably their most impenetrable album so as much as it’s great it could put off some folks (you’ll be fine though)
