Yeah calling the vox "tryhard" is silly. They're just really unique and take some getting used to

the vocal contortion here is part of the charm, which is something you could say for any singer who runs off flair from David Byrne to Daryl to David Yow

yeah sure, the only difference is david bowie doesn't make me want to punch him in the face when he does his eccentric little flourishes. on here the vocals are exaggerated so fucking much and Ape Dos Mil (i know everybody adores this song) is one of the worst offenders of it imo. i like the dude's voice... sometimes, but it's just all over the place. Two Tabs is another rly good example. I like this song, and esp the chorus, but a few times during the verses it's just like ugh stfu.

Vocals on this own hard, first time I heard Cosmopolitan Blood Loss I realized that almost all post-hardcore vocalists suck in comparison. Daryl has the versatility that the dynamic nature of the genre calls for, but when he just sings straight tone he does so with a lot of clarity, power, and technique (doesn't sound nasal at all). And his screams are very powerful and emotive as well, really just nails it around.

A lot of post-hardcore bands nowadays split up the screaming/singing duties between two people, and neither one of them can do either job as well as Daryl. The dude just ruled.

I love a lot of post-hardcore vocalists, but Daryl is definitely amazing

I’ll admit part of my distaste is a result of thinking Daryl is a huge goober at best the more I read about him. Though I was never huge of David Bowie either so it’s also a style thing for me.

Idk Daryl seemed pretty cool on Jeremy Bolm's podcast. I don't see anything wrong with the guy besides his questionable lyrics on Silence but he was young and got cheated on so it's understandable

He's got a wife and kid now so I don't think he's a misogynist. He was just immature and angry as we all were at one point when we were young

He's on record saying he regrets writing a lot of Silence
