It's my second favorite, and it bumped TSoP out of that spot recently. I hate to admit it, but I'm gradually starting to see why TSoP has its detractors, which really bums me out considering how much nostalgia it brings me and how much I've loved it over the years

It's literally subpar prog metal with vocals that don't fit at all.

Here's the thing: when I was younger, I thought the album was phenomenal but I was also very selective about the songs I loved... those being Scavenger, Bite the Pain, Spirit Crusher, Flesh and the Power it Holds, Voice of the Soul, and Painkiller. If those 6 tracks were the only ones on the album, I'd probably have it at a 5. But the truth is, I largely ignored those other deep cuts for quite a while, only occasionally listening to them when doing a full playthrough of the album. And yeah, those other songs just aren't very good. Story to Tell is boring and aimless, To Forgive is to Suffer is also aimless while repeating its hook way too many times, and A Moment of Clarity would have been such a dull and overlong closer if Painkiller hadn't come in to steal the show.

So yeah, I still like plenty of the songs, but the album as a whole isn't quite what I once thought it to be

Agreed that TSoP is basically just prog metal. Pretty sure some of those songs were originally meant for Control Denied's debut. I think the vocals fit fine though, just took me a while to get into them, def his worst vox. I still like that album but least favorite Death for sure, really gotta be in the right mood for it.

I can jam this album all day though.

I think most people would agree with you. Idk why but I really just can't get into a lot of higher pitched vox. I guess it depends but some high vox hit me like nails on a chalkboard. It took me years before I could even listen to TSoP and not turn it off because of that lol

I don't mind them so much anymore but yeah def my least fav Chuck vox. I still dig the album though, solid 4 for me, just gotta be in the right mood for it is all.
