"Influenced" is not at all the same thing as ripping off, dude.

If that's true, then literally everything you listen to is a blatant rip off of something else and therefore lower your rating for everything.

"Lul the band literally admitted they were influenced by it tho "

Yeah, and Tool admitted they were influenced by Meshuggah and Gojira when writing Lateralus and the influence shows, but that doesn't make it a ripoff.

"Well, if that's the kind of riffs this thing has, that's a good reason to not give this a 5.0, lol."

Lol in fairness that riff works well in its sequencing - Home as a straightforward, protracted juggernaut of a song is just what the album needed at that point.

Come to think of it, aside from Fatal Tragedy and maybe Beyond this Life, this album is relatively light on complex but hooky Petrucci riffs

I said rip off, not influence. Dream theater are influenced by Rush and they dont rip em off. ...At least most of the time.

Yeah it is, but not one that will invite good things.

Tool are fascinating musicians with a few strong tracks and a lot of the most needlessly tedious music I can think of under their belts

And hey, look, nothing bad happened after I asked about Tool. Thank you for replying.

You just set back the release of the album another 2 years. Good job. This is why we don't talk about Tool or mention them out loud.
