Ghost Reveries is an instance of a band trying too many things at once. The album, while full of potential, blends together in a homogenous hodge-podge of ideas that probably could have been utilized more wisely. Yes, there are moments of brilliance, but also less impressive moments for Opeth-- Mikael's clean vocals in particular don't often hold up. And occasionally there's a riff that grabs my attention, only to descend back into something else that probably shouldn't be there. I love Opeth, but they've done much better than this.
