I honestly couldn't directly compare this album to any band. The guitar work doesn't really ring a bell to anything else to me, although Atheist is one of the closest I'd say too

I upgraded it to ‘damn good’ - takes a minute to get into these compositions. I was sold on the aesthetic/sound immediately (not always the case with techy stuff), but I needed time.
I also have this weird habit of underestimating excellent releases and initially overhyping others (without that being reflected by my eventual rating).
