ah, I just saw that they're inactive and albums have few ratings on here so figured they were never well-known. and cool, is Nexus your band? or a friend's band? haha

Nexus Polaris even won a grammy. Not sure if that is a plus, but yes it's a genius album.

The Kovenant is not obscure lmao. They do slay though except for their last album.

I wonder what circles they're actually well-known in then, because that album has 79 votes on this site. 15 year old soundcloud rappers have a bigger presence here than that. also barely any spotify listeners which is usually how i judge these things lolol

It's more of a 'back in the day' kind of thing I think, remember them being quite well-known when I was 15 or so (mid 2000s).
Also remember disliking Nexus Polaris, although I own a copy. Will re-evaluate.

it's a bit campy, but that's the charm of it

I distinctly remember the ''CiIiiRrrcuuUUusss MaaAaxXxiiiIIImmUuUUuSS!'' part being off-putting, but who knows? Maybe I can see through that now, being older and wiser.

hahaha, I don't love it these days as much as a lot of users on here, but I also don't listen to as much symphonic black metal as I did when I was younger

Yep, same here. Cradle slipped through, still like them very much, but I've lost all my desire to listen to Dimmu for instance, although I liked them so much when younger.

Which Dimmu? Only just checking them but that Enthrone album is more than decent, don't think it'll touch the better CoF albums I've heard, but I enjoyed it.

Pretty much all Dimmu for me tbh. They were one of my favorite bands 18 years ago (oh boy..) Enthrone is a bit too boring for me these days, Puritanical is too clinical sounding for its own good, but on the other hand it is still a bit of a ripper, and I think if I had to throw on one album it would be Spiritual Black Dimensions. That one's always been my favorite, but even still I only rarely have the desire to listen to it

Agreed DungeonBoy! Spiritual Black Dimensions is underrated. Love Death Cult too, for its accessibility. Oh and the first two yeah budg, they are awesome.

trifolium for nexus polaris, recheck at least the track bringer of the sixth sun
because it's IMO one of the strongest heavy metal tracks period, like right there with victim of changes, war pigs, am i evil

Don't remember the riffing being this good! Oh yeah! And the vocals are great too. Maybe I was just over-saturated with this particular style back then, although they certainly have a very clear own identity. Think I'll give the whole thing another go then!
Wow the acceleration part just kicked in!

and Sverd from Arcuturus/The Kovenant plays keys on Bergtatt so it's all totally relevant to this thread
