My opinions on music are not shared by that many - the great thing about sputnik is that even though you disagree with most people, it's pretty easy to find opinions that you can respect - in my case most of those seem to have given ghost reveries a higher rather than lower rating - so I'll go with that.
I liked the intro of your review on innovation - most record buyers actually yearn for more of the same (and bands generally satisfy this for the sake of commercial success) - hence most Opeth fans would be upset if Ghost Reveries is not Blackwater Park: part 2, if you get my meaning. Most bands pay a high price when they try to re-invent themselves and alienate many fans who just want variations on their prior work. Anyhow, good review. I'll have to get this.

I dunno about this band. Actually, I'm all for this whole "avantgarde metal" thing, but it needs to be slow (like the Melvins or Boris) for me to enjoy. The fast ones (like Meshuggah) give me headaches, aswell as fast-ish metal in general. And Opeth play fast-type stuff, right? If so, I won't like them.

Uhhh they're not fast and they're not slow, usually.

Chan's right. They're like Melodic Death metal/progressive metal.

So, they're midtempo? That's fine with me, actually. As long as they don't play at about 2000 BPM in crazy time signatures, I might just give them a shot.

You forgot the part where the majority of Sputnik consists of retards with really bad opinions. Your fav. band is Sonic Youth acording to Sputnik readings, therefore mm8 wins by miles.

What a fantastic review, even though you seem to be getting a little bit of grief from some kid who obviously has no tolerance for other peoples opinions (probably because hes one of the retards on sputnikmusic who has really bad opinions hahahaha). The best review so far for this album and one of the best Ive read in a while. This is a fantastic album too.

i hate your opinion grrrr

And you like Tool. Shut the hell up. Dude, calm down. I was just imitating him.
Cool review by the way, forgot to react on it :S
I like how it seems everyone is assuming Eliminator doesnt like Opeth or this album when I'm pretty sure that isnt the case at all. He rated 'em a 3, which means "good", so I guess he kinda likes 'em. And even if he wouldn't like them, I don't have problems with it.This Message Edited On 12.23.06

Nah, ShadowsFallen's is better.
He rated 'em a 3, which means "good", so I guess he kinda likes 'em. And even if he wouldn't like them, I don't have problems with it.
I know he gave BlackwaterPark either a 4.5, or a 5. So, he clearly likes the band. I think he's just not a big fan of this album in particular.

Sonic Youth are a good band.
Great review, btw.
