I don't have a clue what they're saying but I know exactly what they mean. that's peak songwriting.

Something keeps this band from being more popular than they should be and I think it’s that the music is too rich and well-written for mortal ears

"Something keeps this band from being more popular than they should be"
I ponder this sometimes with this band, and I think the main reason is that their lyrics aren't in English. Regardless of whether the lyrics are comprehensible in the music or not, that seems to be a big deciding factor in the potential widespread appeal of European bands.

Tbh that can work both ways. If it adds to your eccentricity and charm while still retaining simple catchiness you can get massive (i.e Rammstein) but otherwise yeah it can be a bit of a detriment.

I think from their name people expect them at the outset to be like Korplikaani or Finntroll, so they would lose a lot of people who think they are another goofy folk band. But then if you do listen, they can be so harrowing and gut wrenching, but also the pagan influence and folkiness is so authentic and deeply integrated, that lots of people just wouldn’t get it, and would stop listening

Aside from language, song length keeps them from getting into more mainstream circles too.
Like shortest song is 7 mins or smt

streaming revenue is paltry enough already, but think for a second about how Napalm Death gets the same $0.0037 for one play of "You Suffer" as Moonsorrow does for "Jaasta Syntynyt".
