Nick Greers review which is now deleted at his request was very negative about Music Box. I think that is what people are talking about. It was a very widely read review so I think that perception just spread

Music Box is great, love that bridge and love how they build the main riff out of a traditional lullaby melody
never thought Moths was a standout, ending breakdown notwithstanding, but yeah, For Miles will always be the best here

The ending to Moths goes so hard. The bridge in that song is killer too

"The ten-song LP was written over the past two years, recorded ourselves at our own New Grass Studio, and mixed by our good friend, Scott Evans (Kowloon Walled City, Neurosis, Yautja). We’re really, really stoked on how it turned out, and hope you dig it!"

yeah I agree. It's definitely in the vein of their more recent work (we're just never gonna get a Vheissu/Alchemy Index revival) but it's not as on-the-nose as most of Palms. good vocal performance, great mix, and for some reason I get Deftones vibes from the chorus, which is an interesting direction for Thrice to move in...
I'm not, like, crazy hype for this, but that was leaps and bounds above the last album
