Wow, at least I'm digging all of these fake account 1's you're getting, Burt.
I'm downloading the album right now, time will tell if I'll be one of the fake account 1's or not.

I'm liking it so far. Much more listenable than Realms.

It's the equivalent of the Allman Brothers Band playing post-rock.

This is pretty boring but nice-sounding, Mr. Wagoner.

That the songs don't end when they should and it quickly becomes one of the most boring things I've ever heard.

No but it's not wise of someone to shit on the very style that his own album very clearly fits into perfectly. This Message Edited On 12.22.06

While I do think this album is derived from the alleged clichés of the post-rock genre (minimalism, repeated motifs, building of dynamics and instrumentation, big crescendos), Burt does a really good job of choosing the distance he wants to stay from those influences. I think Jared hit the nail right on the head with his review. It is post-rock and there are a lot of fossils from older bands, but overall this album is something new, and shouldn't be treated as a typical collection of songs that just start slow-build-crescendo-finish. I find that this album sways from moment to moment pretty successfully and doesn't linger too long on any one point. Furthermore, those moments within themselves are a conglomeration of Burt's influences, such that there is an auterism to this album that I enjoy. It doesn't feel as influenced by post-rock as it is by a lot of the other stuff Burt listens to. While I'm privy to these influences as well and am obviously going to be biased I hear a lot of non-post-rock bleeding in here and thus redefining the sound.

Pretty much nothing on ASE was inspired by post-rock, I take very little from it when I write

Heh, no not at all. I was a bit psyched out with the vocals and the lyrics and I was listening to them and thinking "wtf", then I saw it was Tom Waits and I dug it.
