Been avoiding this because it occupies the djeneric pop metalcore space in my brain of newer shit that I'm not really into.
Finally gave it a proper listen and yeah I wasn't entirely wrong in my assessment but it's still pretty enjoyable, if this had come out when I was really getting into my Periphery/Tesseract/djent phase in general/ I could see myself getting super into it but this isn't really doing much of anything no one else has done before, but they've hit a nice blend w/ the heavy+melody+atmosphere and the vocals are strong for sure. Definitely like this guy more than spencer and I'm mostly lyrics blind especially on one listen but nothing jumped out at me and made me go ugh Jesus what the fuck dude??? so i'm assuming his lyrics are better than Spencer's also.
"counterpoint to that = this record is still festooned with about as much chug-per-minute lowest common denominator core bullshit as any record of the kind sput has overhyped and i cannot justify more than a 3 with it. Immolation of Night esp is one of the worst songs of 2023. (maybe more damning but) Reverie does not give me much hope that these guys could make a decent record *without* the chugz either. shit's easily a tier up from last year's Counterparts memehype but those birds do be of a feather "
Actually hard agree with pg1 Johnny on this one. And structurally these are pretty samey and way too often break into some Linkin-Park-ass chorus that I hear so many of these newer bands doing.
The last 3 track run was particularly nice tho I could see myself coming back to some o that. Overall Emberglow was probably the standout for me honestly but it's also just a Loathe song like 1:1.

i wish loathe songs were 1:1 like emberglow. loathe would be a better band
i feel like when loathe try and make those types of songs they play it pretty straight with root notes and chords, which is cool and works, but emberglow does a lot more to mix in the dj0nty side in which i think helps it stand out as something different that tickles my brain a little more

I def agree that it's more instrumentally interesting and varied than your avg Loathe track, it just gave me the same vibe hard and at the end of the day Loathe provides me with more of something that I don't feel like I've already heard 1000 times/I really like their more vibey Deftones side so I get more mileage out of them. I'd f with an album of Emberglow type stuff pretty hard, it definitely leans a little more Newer Contortionist too which is very much more my vibe than typical djentiness anymore.
