Second best of their prog era. Love it, don't think it's too long at all.

I have to reluctantly agree with the naysayer here. Opeth is better without the organ.

I'm on a uriah heep kick recently. I'm all about the organ and shuffles rn

I got nothing against organ in principle but opeth has done a lot of their heavy moments with organs over the course of the last few albums and it just never truly worked for me idk
idk thats also part of why pale communion is easily my fav of this era because they didn't really try to go into heavy sections there

Idk, I think Ghost Reveries proves that the metal/organ combo can work well

I know. I was just saying that I think there's a way that the fusion can be done well
With that said, it would be cool to hear Opeth write some heavier material again. In Cauda Venenum is arguably the heaviest of their new albums, so maybe they're progressing in that direction now

Yeah... with the exception of the new drummer announcement, the band have been suspiciously quiet these days

Saw them live a couple of months ago and I still think they've got a few albums left in the tank, they seemed quite happy and energic through the almost 3 hour set. Mikael's growls sounded amazing as well.

I don't see any reason to believe mikael is calling it quits any time soon

this has been the longest time without a new album

i mean if one would come out now it would still be the longest time between two albums in their history

Yeah but all the covid shit happened and they lost their drummer. Plus, legacy bands tend to take longer in between albums in their later years

^ true. Hell, it took Gojira a whole 5 years to come out with Fortydudes

fair fair
lots of bands went into creative overdrive during covid out of necessity but i guess legolas leaving left a hole too big to fill easily there

It's honestly shocking to me that this album was released in 2019. Seems like only a couple years ago

Agreed with Flug - the organ sounding atrocious on their prog rock era
Agreed with Koris - the organ sounds perfect on GR
