Hey could you share your experiences if you have gone to a mastodon gig? because I watched some of them and while in musical terms they're very professional the vocals are a bit lackluster. I mean I can't blame Troy, because he at least tries to sing the best he can but then I listen to Brent and I want to cry.

Mastodon don’t have a bad album. They’re all good, just to varying degrees.

"Hey could you share your experiences if you have gone to a mastodon gig?"
My experience was loud mastodon, punches, a girl rolling on the floor, sweat, beer sprinkling everywhere and people screaming in Japanese.
I can't tell you a single song of the tracklist. I think they played March of the Fire Ants.

They sound way better live than videos would have you believe. I was expecting subpar vox, but Brann and Troy sounded really good. Brent was mixed a bit too low.

Its probably harder to hear them when youre actually there, so they sound better.

sound-wise they're fine but there is zero energy or stage presence from the band. just completely lifeless. unless concerts are a sort of social event for you you're better served just blasting their albums at a very high volume at home.

I wouldn't call them completely lifeless. Not any worse than, say, BTBAM. I mean, they're a bunch of older dudes who play some fairly technical shit and almost all sing. Can't expect them to be running around the stage and jumping off amps and shit.

Brann and Troy are pretty animated/into it, but the other two are pretty still and emotionless.

go see neurosis and get back at me g. I don't expect them to be going apeshit but goddamn do something to show that what you're there for actually means something.

I always found Troy to be very expressive but Brent and Bill are deadpan.

that's basically it. I've seen them six or seven times and they've generally been terrific musically, decent vocally, and boring visually. but I don't really care what they look like as long as they seem into what they're playing. 2011 Hunter/Heritage was the only show that I didn't thoroughly enjoy.

They sound good but could use a bit more animation onstage.
It's different with bands like BTBAM or ALL live where you don't need the animation as you're in awe if what's being played.
Mastodon requires energy to go hand in hand with the riffs.

Mastodon live was one of the worse concerts I've been to, they're definitely musicians first and performers second. Also the opening band had the venue put a barricade across the floor so I couldn't get to the pit for Blood and Thunder, which was a huge bummer... at least Clutch was great.
