I mean seriously, unless you hate Iron Maiden, and it seems like you really don’t, how in the fuck do you rate this a 2.5? I am so confused...

I used to hate maiden for the following reasons.
Theatrical nonsense
Screechy vox
No connection whatsoever to the songs
OTT fake rubbish.
Lack of fire
Immature bollocks.
I couldn’t have been more wrong but it took me until I was in me mid 20s to realise it. As I approach 40 I can honestly say they’re one of if not THE greatest band of all time.

there's a nostalgia factor there, i've just grown to really not like their style at all plus dickinson's voice is downright hilarious. but i did like them back in the day

I loved their work since day one. Although I was introduced at a somewhat later age (17-18), I can relate to what you say in a sense that the more I grow the more I love their music.
To me, they are the greatest metal band of all time, only behind Black Sabbath (if you think of Sabbath as a metal band).

what else would you think Black Sabbath to be

A rock band that played really heavy blues, but let's not have that discussion again

I think Black Sabbath's early '80s stuff is pretty influential on metal as a whole. Stuff like Heaven and Hell (along with other albums like Psalm 9) would be formative to doom metal.
