"I forget the track name but the one 2nd from the end is a plodding 2-3 minute track that changes abruptly into something else entirely, talk about an awkward transition. Yet, this moment that could've at least been interesting is still lacking any intrigue or purpose. "

'This is not progressive thrash though'
Well, that's sort of my point... long thrash tracks that could've easily been around half the length. They're progressive with regards to runtime & sometimes structure but it doesn't bring enough distinctive sounds or inventiveness to the table.

'lol it did in 86 mate'
Unfortunately I don't have the ability to go back in time & listen to this 30 years ago & considering I wasn't born until '87...
I do wish I'd heard this in full a lot earlier on though, might've changed my perspective. I wasn't into metal at an early age & 2000 is probably about as early as I could've realistically hoped for but it wasn't my thing (I guess).

"I don't understand this band."
Yeah you don't.
Pinnacle of thrash, rules to this day. Progressive hasn't got anything to do with it.

Why would you want 6+ minute mid-tempo thrash tracks that aren't progressive? That's what I don't get. It doesn't twist & turn enough for my liking to justify some of the track lengths.
I probably just prefer thrash to be harder, faster & to the point, then there's no need for any progressive elements.

"I just don't get why you'd want mid-tempo, progressive thrash." ok??????????????????????
seems like "progressive" (whatever you think that means) isnt even the issue here then? why dont you check grindcore and crossover and stuff like that then? i already rec'd Coroner which is high acclaimed mid-tempo thrash with 6+ min songs

Because unlike tons of Thrash bands there's a sense of atmosphere here on offer and the hooks, vocal delivery and songwriting keeps it interesting.

I said '6+' but length alone isn't an issue, I like some 15 minute+ songs.

I don't see this, especially the vocals which are terrible. In fact this is a lot what the album lacks for me.
Edit: although I'll admit there's a certain atmosphere to the record which I cannot deny & I don't mind it.

If you don't like the vocals sure but I don't see how they're terrible.

They sound empty & weak to me, adds nothing to the music. It's not difficult listening to them I just feel it holds the record back (amongst other things).

All because they're lower in the mix than the guitars doesn't mean they're weak.
