Yeah Apokatastasis Panton is my favorite instrumental of all time
Every track on this thing is just perfect though let's be real
And this guy has a video on youtube doing a drum playthrough of this album and it's really sick

@WretchedCacophony gotta check that drum playthrough asap cause im fully convinced the drummer for this band is not human
Also I'm a bit late on this but I'm curious. Fantano took down his Furnaces review bc the vocalist of this band a neo nazi or sumthin? lol

Check my rev for the latest, Jay, I go over that in some detail (if a little flippantly and with a lot of dick jokes). If you don't like my writing, I've thrown some sources at the bottom of the rev too.
The guitars' melodies on this album tickle me like nothing else, ez 5

Finally an answer to the drum machine question.

Yeah, I feel like consensus has long been that it's definitely a guy, we just don't know who. People theorized Jamie from Ulcerate, cause he could definitely play the shit. It's just so far away from his style that it's a hard sell. I'd love to pick all the members brains about the process of writing this shit though.

Its totally possible he chose a different direction in style for that band though, or that the band had some say in how he plays.

You can definitely tell it's real drums lol. It's quite obvious in parts where i can definitely hear imperfections in the playing. Also, none of the drumming on deathspell albums is really that mindblowing. There are parts that are mildly challenging but nothing like ulcerate
|
| |
yea the drumming fucking sucks!!

I'm not saying that lol. Just that something like ulcerate is way tougher to play even though I prefer this to ulcerate

Yo why you think DSO drums suck?

They're definitely fantastic drum parts. ESPECIALLY for black metal, where drums can often just be limited to halftime grooves, slow blasts, and fast blasts. Some songs are also faster than others. I think it's funny when people think the tom blasts on a song like Abscission sound overlaid. They aren't anything impossible, but the parts are just pretty creative given the context of the music they're playing.

Lol
They're definitely good drums for black metal. Lots of variety and good grooves and also well produced which is nice. Just not over the top technical and thats fine. The blasts also never exceed the 210-220 bpm range (git gud DSO)

I think they have a song or two in the 260 range if I’m not mistaken.

I actually went back through the blast sections on this album just out of curiosity. Have you beheld the fevers is the fastest I believe and it is actually up around like 235 I think. There may be faster ones on other albums that I'm not remembering
