Why did I just read 6 pages of someone saying they don't get this and someone else trying to hyper analyze the societal impact of that opinion

>they are also people who say "X is worthless sabbath did it better" on the internet, and if that's only kind on the mind here then yes ofc it's restrictive and unhelpful
bad example because most stoner bands are literally worthless and sabbath did it better

most rock and metal is shamelessly derivative but stoner in particular takes the cake

stoner is about attitude and guitar tone lol, no-one has ever turned to that genre for original riffs
and most of *all genres is shamelessly derivative, are we rly gonna get hung up on the plato/scaruffi chin-scratching school of imitation=worthless i have not yet had one coffee today and do not have it in me to humour this echo of stale discourse

>and most of *all genres is shamelessly derivative
the point was that rock and metal are worse about it than the avg genre :]

it is very easy to tell when two riffs sound the same yes
it's a classic online pseud take to act as though originality plays anything more than a minor role in determining value, and you of all people have spent enough time sulking at the Things People Think On The Internet to be able to laugh at that

surely the role originality plays is up to the individual?
not sure why youre even going there though

i think its funny that you shit on most metal but then act like stoner rock is somehow not -at minimum the exact same shit- but most likely literally worse
you bring up attitude, but none of those bands have attitude, they have literally the same attitude as each other, there is nothing distinguishing them whatsoever

you soiled your nerd pants by bring derivation into this, don't fingerpoint me now
the role of originality is a contextually informed psychological construct that has next to nothing with how most people experience music unless they're actively overthinking it, so yes it's "up to the individual" but not in a way that particular legitimises it. nine times out of ten when you complain about 'derivative' music, it's just a cover for a songwriting/performance failing specific to the alb in question that you were too lazy to engage with in its own terms
also qotsa almost as good an example as kyuss of why you don't need a single original riff in the studio to catch what actually matters about rock music

baby if you did your homework before dropping that piss-lazy ad hom, you'd know i bat for kindred
not sure i have the patience for that level of petty

>you soiled your nerd pants by bring derivation into this
because some genres *are* fundamentally more prone to being filled with useless derivation than others
this should not be a controversial statement

> to catch what actually matters about rock music
lmao
see its different when i like the 2.5 band they catch what actually matters about rock music but when you like the 2.5 band youre just a nerd

"because some genres *are* fundamentally more prone to being filled with useless derivation than others"
the only part of this up for discussion was the correlation you (/a bunch of online music melts) imposed between derivation and uselessness
and no offence but i am not about to take pointers on what actually matters about music from someone so jaded that it might as well only exist in historical timelines and spot the difference exercises. if you're gonna pedestal originality that way, you're welcome to your crusty novelty trip but maybe keep it the right side of the rym quarantine yh?
