I was being hyperbolic, probably should've put "in the Western world" - I have no interest in ever visiting the Middle East or certain areas in Asia. Or Africa for that matter.

Parisians give the rest of France a bad name. I think there's a bit of a misunderstanding of the French mentality when it comes to the arrogant French archetype though. I think they're just not as fussed about superficial pretences as the British but the British are raised to be very sensitive about that kind of stuff

Idk tbh, I thought Paris was vastly overrated but I can't speak for the rest of France so I don't. Plus my uncle and his friends are super chill people and so were the friends of my aunt when we went camping in France.
A friend of mine told me that French people have some very different customs that can be confusing but that they're in general lot less "prude" than other Western societies and relatively chill in general.
Never heard about the British and superficial pretense, that would appear more like an American thing curiously.

Even then I've only really had trouble with French people in restaurants and similar service based industries (hotel owners too), mostly within tourism where offending the customers won't likely cause any loss of custom (probably why it's more noticeable in Paris but I've seen it in coastal towns a lot too)
Ordinary French people and even salespeople in places outside the main tourist areas are nearly always fine

yeah I find Paris overrated
it's ok but London is 10x better and even the French secretly know it not that they'd ever admit it

My uncle actually annoyed his superiors for so long that they stationed him in the South because he couldn't stand being in Paris for too long.
I still gotta see London, I just hear it's quite expensive which sounds like drag. Still gotta see GB in general. Comes pretty much right after the Netherlands and Belgium in my "next European places to check out" list.

yeah I wouldn't advise doing much of your shopping there but the general vibe is amazing. it's like a huge village. so much to do and see but it all feels so close together so you could be walking around for hours, stray far away from where you started and still not get bored
it's pretty hard to gauge the general personality of a country so I tend not to try. My family on my French side is quite catholic and my aunt and uncle are quite spartan and super not chill but I find that the further removed I go within my family the chiller the people get and the more I relate to them
funny how stuff like that works out
what I can say is that my french family is immensely more extended and unified than my english side which is totally fragmented. fits the stereotype

Yeah, it definitely sounds like a really interesting place. It just makes you wonder how - as a traveler - how you're supposed to get by for some time without breaking the bank.
"it's pretty hard to gauge the general personality of a country so I tend not to try."
Same, although I do try to see cultural differences and some general tendencies.

Curiously, this also somewhat applies to our family. Some unified part on my father's side, lots of fragmented parts in general and lots of extensions. And for me a lot of people I don't really care for and some people who are super cool but live quite a mile away.

I'd love to see some justification as to why Paris is overrated. You clearly didn't do it right.

Shite. I'm about as wound up as can be and borderline depressed. Taking a trip to the Festival this week and another to good old Perth the week after. I'm basically in limbo for another four and a half weeks.

I mean a comedown was inevitable. Well, give me a year and I practically will be: a jaded graduate working for the man, waiting for the reaper
How's things in your camp?

Ha, yep that'll be me again then.
Also of note when I finished traveling I went into a crippling depression that makes this album sound like a motivational speech.
All good this end dude, jammin', livin' lovin' and complainin'
The essentials needed to get through the week.

That you demand justification for this already indicates that you do not understand the implications of the word "overrated".

Well fine, at least explain what you didn't like about it. As for xenophobia if you found that to be an issue, I can only defend Parisians and say I never encountered any in my time living there. On the contrary they are far more welcoming, open and not lacking in common courtesy like us Brits. The FN winning the european elections was less to do with xenophobia than abstention and an increasing disillusionment with monsieur Hollande's ineptitudes.
