I think he doesn't know what he's talking about.

i do. and i'm not saying that it isn't impressive or impactive. i'm just saying there's a difference between being accurate and being inspirational. if we were to base musical quality solely on technical ability, Prince would probably be the greatest musician on the face of the earth. the thing is, he writes boring, purposeless music

that is an extreme example, but it's a useful one. PtH's songs are certainly better than Prince's by a long shot. and i do like this album, i enjoy it; i just don't really see anything in it that hasn't been done before. to me it's party music more than anything else. which is fine; within that specific category, it's excellent - but i can't justify placing it anywhere near, say, Beethoven, or Paranoid

I wish I could even begin to articulate my argument for why this does almost nothing for me...

You guys can't tell me Fortress does not have death metal elements. While Rody is not constantly screaming, PTH can definitely be considered a more technical form of progressive death metal. I really don't care whether you consider it death metal, all i know that it just seems too much, like beating the dead horse.

As for the falsetto and keyboard solo, I was merely pointing out that the album's strengths are those sort of oddball things that keep it interesting, because frankly, i find it much harder to listen to Fortress all the way through than Kezia. The songs stand better individually. This Message Edited On 09.03.08This Message Edited On 09.03.08

Great album.
Seeing these guys live on the Never Say Die tour at the end of the year. Lineup is a mixed bag but Unearth and PTH make it worth it.

The riffs on this album almost give off an SRV kind of vibe. I can't really explain it, but it is definitely a good thing.

Fortress shows so much improvement over Kezia--I'll be happy to see where the band can go if THIS is their Sophomore album.

Search for the Truth is okay. Two songs, one much better than the other. Unless they've re-pressed it, good luck finding it. I still have a copy of it on my wall and another one kicking about somewhere. But yeah Silent Genocide is a cool song.

I actually don't like what I've heard from this album. All of their guitar riffs sound aimless and hastily written. They definitely get point for originality though.
