I definitely asked BEFORE purchasing the Death re-masters, for a minute I thought I may have been mistaken but it appears this precaution was indeed taken (found my original comment on the subject).

Not even sure which edition I have of some other records, by coincidence (it wasn't planned) I managed to snag an original Rust In Peace & then proceeded to 3.5 it anyway, haha :-).

You lucky punk. I bought the CD for RiP a while ago before I even knew there was a shitty remaster in existence and then later I realized I had the shitty remaster lol. I am pretty hesitant to buy the vinyl for RiP now because I have no way of confirming if it's the original or the shitty remaster

if you're talking about the newer pressings with the gold capitol sticker on the front it's not the remaster. in fact I don't think the remaster has ever been pressed in vinyl but I could be wrong

Well take this one for instance

I can't find a way to confirm which version it is

Just listen and decide which you like more (regarding remasters in general)

Ah, I saw that version on Amazon too and now I think it is hilarious because it is 2.5 times the price of the original one lol

the toms are kinda loud in the mix, but otherwise the remaster's a pretty great job.

Yeah, the remaster sounds great. Maybe even a bit too clean for this kind of album, but it's nice to hear these riffs crush in with such a full sound for once

I really need to hear the remastered version, always felt there was something slightly off with this, it's still enjoyable but my least favourite 'growl-era Opeth'

It's still one of their worse due to some draggy parts here and there. It doesn't keep the legendary stuff from happening (t/t and last third of Master'd Apprentice), but it's not as intriguing as the few albums before it and after it imo
