if you’re just counting their first two records maybe, but even that I don’t really agree with.
SOAD is by far the most consistent of any nu metal band, unless you’re counting like Deftones or something

LP might be more influential than SOAD, but they don't go nearly as hard.

I've never really considered SOAD a full-on nu metal band tbh. Moreso just alternative metal with nu-metal and thrash influences

I mean nu metal is just as non descriptive as something like grunge. It’s more of a time and place kinda thing.
Alice In Chains, Nirvana, Soundgarden, and Pearl Jam sound nothing alike. Linkin Park, SOAD, Korn, Deftones, Slipknot, Limp Bizkit etc etc sound nothing alike. Aside from like, downtuned guitars and occasionally having a rap kind of flow to the vocal delivery

list of fake umbrella """genres""" that mean absolute jack shit about the sound of the thing in question;
britpop
grunge
nu metal
post-hardcore
indie rock
the list goes on

Visual Kei, post-punk, and new wave could probably be included in that list too, considering how broad they are
Oingo Boingo and Duran Duran might both be new wave, but they sure as hell don't sound anything like each other. Same for X Japan and Malice Mizer when it comes to Visual Kei

wasn't nu metal meant to be like rap metal or some shit
soad were always full-on alt metal to me

The rap/funk component is usually the biggest thread linking the nu-metal bands, which is why I don't generally associate SOAD or (most of) Slipknot with the genre

And then you’ll have people saying Faith No More is nu metal (which they are)

I'll whiteknight for Ryus and say Korn and especially Linkin Park were much better live bands than SOAD who were pretty rough (only the drummer delivered live back in the day)

I saw them as the headliners at Ozzfest (whatever year that was). They played for at least 90 minutes and they were incredible, that night at least.

dude I saw them like four years ago and they killed it then too. I’ve seen some shit talking about their live shows over the years but they were great.
