Interesting that porcupine tree had a song called Dignity on their new album, and opeth, too since these two know one another, makes me wonder if it's coincidence.

A worse version of Old-peth and a worse version of most progressive rock out there. There's nothing remarkable or new about this record, despite having a few moments of rather memorable music like the last track.
Everything seems so painfully over-extended and directionless (The Garroter's opening is the best example of this). Guitars were given more distortion and yet there's not a single riff you can remember.
What is the point, really? It's not really about the album missing growls, the music itself is just so much more safe and by-the-book, it bores me to death. You'll have a better time listening to modern progressive rock records like those of Wobbler, Caligonaut or Shamblemaths, the latter two perfectly encapsulating the dark eclectic prog aura that Opeth is failing to achieve.
Pale Communion had the upper hand of being much more different from the rest of their output by portraying a positive mood, something the band had almost never done before, but this is just one serious step back in my opinion.

Yeah Minnets is amazing, such a perfect build of theatricality. You can hear how much fun they had with this one.
Relatable, I didn't spend too much time with them either overall, but this certainly was in my CD player for a couple of weeks (months?) and it re-entered it every couple of months too.

yeah this is a solid 4. also just discovered today that there is an extended version of this album, the three additional songs are pretty nice but man that runtime is long af now lol.
still prefer pale communion over this when it comes to their pure prog era.

Heritage is my fave prog Opeth, top 4 overall even. This is my second fave from that era, by quite the margin too.

Minnets Yta's chorus is basically a drunken spouse arguing in Swedish and that kinda ruins the vibes for me.

Are you referring to the lyrics, or the way Mikael sings them? I never had a problem with the chorus in the English version

the lyrics, and the way Mikael sings them
It hurts my scandinavian pride to say, but English is better.
