Gospel is the one I feel strongest about. I can't remember going into that album EVER thinking Golden Dawn wasn't a) my most anticipated track, b) ended up being #1. The others all have varying levels of "somewhat debatable" in my own mind, but still fit the mould of being reliant on highlights over consistency (except Red, I mean "Starless" is just THAT good. The rest of the album is still an easy pass despite its significance).
I suppose an easier and perhaps less cumbersome way of framing the general point is that the 'best' albums are often those where your fave cuts vary over time (which isn't an uncommon concept or particularly revolutionary thinking, but there you go)

Good album. Probably not a 'great' one, though. Let's be honest, dude had the unfortunate fate of living in his godly father's shadow.

don't think that's 'honest' from anything but a media snob perspective -- as far as the wider narrative goes (whatever your stance may be), TB's legacy is firmly in the shadow of JB's

"it" "depends". there's only one real way to navigate a listen of Red or Spiderland etc

Well sure. Why should we, learned and obsessed and engaged with music beyond what most people would consider a normal and/or healthy amount, care about or even bother entertaining the perspective of people who essentially need to be told what they do and/or don't like.
Jeff makes it on all the VH1 and Rolling Stone and WatchMojo lists. Meanwhile Tim tops the lists of insufferable critical personalities like Piero Scaruffi and Robert Christgau and basement dwellers on RYM with 17k albums rated and only seven 10/10s.
One is obviously far more 'important' than the other. But I'll let you guess which one I generally find more interesting/appealing.
Probably says more about me that I'd care to investigate or be willing to admit but such is life.

Watched the doco tonight. Think it gave a pretty good insight into the man, music and legacy but some weird like animation editing at times kinda annoyed me.

I know I shouldn’t be expecting Tim’s Lorca or Starsailor from Jeff, but I dunno, I wanted a bit more oomph to the sounds. I believe it all comes to taste/genre preference though.

I know this point has been made many times but they really are completely separate in terms of appeal, even if you ultimately enjoy both. I only (relatively) recently discovered Tim and his material (particularly Starsailor) was immediately striking and enjoyable, yet had I discovered his music back when I first heard Jeff, my reaction would likely have been rather different
I do think the more straight-forward alt rock stuff brings this one down a peg
