This is full of classic tunes it really is. Street Spirit, The Bends, Planet Telex, Fake Plastic Dreams, Bullet Proof, (Nice Dream)... It's essential. The only songs here that are even close to your average level of great are High and Dry, Sulk, and Black Star, but even those are still excellent songs. This doesn't have the overpowering aura of amazingness that OKC, Kid A, and IR have, but it's an amazingly consistent collection of songs. Beats the shit out of 99% of other angsty emotive albums out there.

This is a classic album but I can see how people coming at this backwards after the 'arty years' may give it a good ol' genre bashing.

Within the genre it's perfect. The worst songs are 'Sulk' and 'High and Dry'...maybe 'Bones' and 'Nice Dream' next? Putting it like that how can this be anything but great, those are all still quality tunes.

Agreed there Doof (though I like (Nice Dream) more than you do, super underrated tune).

I like Nice Dream a lot...but all the other 8 songs on the album are a little stronger.

Just, Street Spirit and Fake Plastic are 5/5 worthy

Telex, Iron Lung and Bullet Proof are 4.5 worthy

Black Star and t/t aren't far behind

"Fake Plastic Trees," "My Iron Lung," and "Black Star" are three of the best Radiohead songs imo and that's saying a lot

Cool. The 'I used to fly like peter pan' bit is my fave moment in the entire Radiohead catalogue.

First two songs and the four ballads are essential, and the rest even is very well done alt. rock. I prefer all the full-lengths they did afterwards, but this is a kind of classic for sure.

Would I love this as much if it weren't a Radiohead album? Possibly not.

Does that matter? Not at all.

nostalgia does me in on this one even if I know in the back of my mind OK Computer/In Rainbows are more impressive releases

Without Thom Yorke singing this would be a 3.5/4...but that's like saying without Jeff Buckley 'Grace' would be a 2.5-3
