we are not talking about burial - untrue and i hope y'all are fucking okay with that now hold my beer because i don't personally care at all about "unique" as far as sum-of-its-parts content goes. long as an artist has a distinctive voice or presence, or just any sense of spark and animation, they can do whatever the hell they like with the most derivative shit in the world (including lyrics) and i won't bat an eyelid - so no further unpacking there
and that just about does it for "authentic" tbh
"you cant just let yeule off the hook by saying "well it works from the perspective of the album""
if an artist opens their album with a full-length track on which they professedly define themselves in the most explicit terms possible, and then opens the following track with a line that, as you've pointed out, is openly performative (though, incidentally, on point both syllabically and melodically), then yes, the dissonance between the two makes it striking from the perspective of the album and the message it's constructing (which, as becomes increasingly clear over the remaining tracks, is just to demonstrate how complicated, painful and intimate it is to map out a self-narrative in the first place; understanding how and why someone acts performatively is a key part of understanding who they are underneath that). in the same way, the darkness of that line's subject matter and the innocence suggested by its childlike imagery are at odds with each other, so while it's not a 'good' lyric by any means on paper, i'd say it's cogent enough within its placement in the track
"they dont lend themselves to poetry because of the uncanny style in which he sings and the direction of the music"
i agree 100% and think it's a nice example of why lyrics can avoid the same requirements as poetry and still work completely perfectly in the context of music
i too would like a beer yes plz

johnny an artist cannot be honestly expressive through art without being unique because we all have a unique perspective on life and expression in general. if you dont give a shit about organic artistic expression then fine but i do. god i sound like a pretentious douche bag fuck

johnny i dont really care what you say, i will never get past that line without being horrified/amused by it

if that's what you mean by unique worth then sure, i mostly agree - but that's a reflection of the way they voice things, not necessarily the things (as in content) they voice ygm
which is why thousands of artists have expressed wildly different things through different takes on the same, non-unique melodies or beats or lyrical tropes
"i will never get past that line without being horrified/amused by it"
okay, but at this point that's perhaps more a reflection of your preconceptions of it than the role it actually plays in songwriting

in a world of 7 billion plus people there is something to be said of coincidence and commonality in human experience... especially in a capitalist climate that has reduced near everything to commodity. uniqueness is valuable, our differences worth being noticed, but as we approach the painful and inevitable end, we all ultimately live variations on a theme... struggling towards death, feeling similar pecuniary confinement as multiple jobs no longer support even a meager standard of living.
that being said don't be a clone, that's lame shit
