The songs are so boring, especially when all Stephen Carpenter can do nowdays is do an open Drop D note to keep the music within some form of heaviness. I like the lush parts but when you put them up against songs like Minerva, they just don't compare. It also seems like they're relying too heavily on the shoegaze element which is done poorly in my opinion. The band really needs to put a good heavy album out again because I'm not a fan of the direction they've been going down the past few albums.

Thats the one reason I dont like this album better than White Pony or Saturday Night Wrist. The guitar work can sometimes be somewhat boring. Every other instrument including Chino's singing is fantastic.

yeah, guitar work keeps this from bordering on a 5 from me. the song-writing is just so damn good though (i mean in terms of composition and melody, not riffing). White Pony and self-titled are still better than this imo.
