its ok, i freaking hate his vocals, musically they are fairly good, good guitar work, better than average bass work, mediocre drums at best for what they are doing.

What they're doing is pretty fucking awesome though, therefore drumming = pretty damn awesome. I prefer Kezia, but Bone Marrow, Palms Read, and Wretch are still ace, actually the whole album is pretty much.

what i meant by the drumming comment is that the due to the fairly proggy nature of their songs he is a mediocre drummer for progressive metalcoreish stuff.

na he is correct that's the drums are solid at best...people have said here that he underplays and is better than he puts on record, but i think that's either a lame excuse or lame of him...i'd prefer a little more flash on the drums rather than just the "get the job done and let the guitars/vocals shine" way he plays...i tend to lie overplayers though so maybe my opinion is void

The drumming was a bit of a letdown, especially after how strong he started in bloodmeat.

Everyone in this band has chops, case and point.

fuck chops; my band director said he saw the Journey drummer at a drummer fest and he was the most amazing drummer he'd ever seen play. You wouldn't think that by the Journey songs you hear on the radio. It's about composition and tastefulness. I'm a guy who loves hearing 'technical' stuff but people get all caught up on how 'talented' people are and stuff.
There are tons of musicians that are very talented at their respective instrument that don't show it in the music they play. That's not a surprise.
the point natey5280 is making is that the music isn't all that impressive once you remove the jingling bells and look at its actual composition. anyone can learn to play an instrument well, with enough practice. it's not what makes a song good

I must say that although Fortress displays improved technique and musicianship to that of Kezia, it is the inferior album. While the individual tracks of Fortress may be stronger, Kezia is much stronger as a whole, and in that regard Fortress was a disappointment.

Also, i disagree with Tyler Patrick Munro about the falsetto in "wretch" and the keyboard solo in "limb for limb." They both offer a little more variation from the album's sometimes overbearing death metal themes.

why do you need to disagree with him about a falsetto and the only keyboard solo? Boooo at people dissecting reviews for hours just to find something that is prolly still correct that they could alter slightly to say the reviewer messed up. I don't really see any death metal here either, Rody will throw in a growl every once n a while but its cuz he can, cuz hes boss.

even then its not really a death growl, more like a metalcore-ish bellow. the point is that there is maybe a 1 percent death metal influence here.
