Best comparison to the new LP album EVER.
Although raditude's cover is as silly as fuck.
One more light cover is like something pink floyd would use.

I like the tracks were Mike does the vocals, but overall it's pretty bad. Wished they would just use 'real' instruments on OML, I think i would've liked it a lot more if they did. I also hate how every song has the same structure and the chorus get's repeated 4+ times in a song....

It's scary but I think they genuinely like their new album which is mind-numbing to me.

dude they've always been totally un-self-aware to what everyone is doing, that's one of the reasons they keep dipping their toes in shit like OML
this whole decade their musical approach has been defined by uninformed blanket statements of "this sound is better than this sound," and as evidenced from LT to this to OML, there's no consistency to what they're thinking whatsoever. Reading interviews and shit, it's like they're so fixated on NOT churning out something they dislike instead of actually crafting something they do
whatever, band hit its peak with ATS, they clearly don't have the will to experiment or take an open-minded approach to music again so I dunno what I'm expecting

watched an interesting interview with Mike where, yeah, he basically said 'we do what makes us happy, we hate staying in one place, and we get frustrated when people dislike our changes in sound and just say do HT again'; kind of missing the point that most people are fine with them changing their sound but somewhat less fine when they make a shit album because (as ash said) they don't pay attention to what anyone is doing and don't seem to realise that their 'experiments' are often not that experimental at all

@Beardog The band did use real instruments on the album. The drums sound completely real other than some slight filtering, Phoenix's bass is pretty audible, and Brad is obviously the dude playing guitar

exactly, Asleep
and it's even more frustrating because you can tell they're "experimenting" without really /listening/ to anything new or taking inspiration from different places. Even though they're sonically "trying something new," they're taking their cues from the same ideas and structures they have almost nonstop since they started. For an album or two, that could work, but when you take that approach for this long, it starts to wear incredibly thin, regardless of how you express it. Fans catch onto that and see it as a lack of inspiration or passion, so no matter how much LP themselves are like "we're really proud of this, we really feel it," something's wrong if that's not being conveyed.

@Asleep
If someone can get that exact thing into their heads, it would be nice.
They really are oblivious to the fact that most people don't like this new stuff not because it's not HT 3.0 or Meteora 2.0, but because in itself it's a pile of shit irregardless of the genre.

@TVC, I do like the fact that there is atleast some real guitar, but on songs like Good Goodbye there isn't any real bass. Even on the songs where there is, it isn't brought forward in the mix, it could be every instrument on 0-200 hz. Drumwise, the record does have some parts where there indeed is a real kit playing, but this is only some parts. Most parts are 808 beats, not a filtered drum kit. I'd rather see them use the drumsound they did on Living Things than this real-notreal drum change up...
