Seriously Mikael's vocals actually leave me with my jaw dropped at some points.

Those cleans in Bleak and Leper certainly do

Like those moments in Leper where he actually screams. Like holy fuck, what a set of pipes.

His cleans are better than ever, its his growls that have suffered.

That's prob why there's no growls anymore but that's ok. Just remember he was once the best DM vocalist ever

Yeah that's what I meant, and for whatever reason he refuses to write prog metal Opeth unless he can growl. It's either this or Heritage, I guess there's no middle ground with him

WE ENTERED WINTER ONCE AGAIN.

I'm ok with having beautiful cleans at the expense of growls, especially cos he doesn't plan on using them on studio albums in the near future

Well, Ghost Reveries had some 'middle ground' moments.

Ever since Peter left, it has given Mikael full license to pretty much do what the fuck he wants. Hence why Opeth are headed in a progressive rock direction.

Mikael always wrote most of the music, they just split the playing 50/50 I think

Yeah, I read their recording diaries about it and Mikael literally wrote everything apart from the odd solo that Peter might write

That's not what I'm saying Talons, I'm saying that the addition of Axe and Fredrik (who are both 'blues' based players) has allowed Mikael to venture into the prog rock realm fully.

I'm surprised Martin Mendez was so cool about that transition too

Well if that's what they want to do, it's their band, they can play whatever music they want. But I'll

always see albums like this as being their true sound

Mendez has been with Mikael so long though, he'd prob go with whatever Mike does at this point.

Probably. He still gets a bash at the metal stuff live I suppose

As long as I was still able to play fun challenging basslines in the music I wouldn't be complaining. And if the music was still good which it is
