I mean, i won't lie, i'm part of that phenomenon as well. If an album is notoriously downgraded, i stay the hell away from it. Maybe I'll go as far as ditching it. Thankfully, I've changed that habit the last couple of years.

> It's a pretty damn good album, just wish they cut some of the fat.

hear hear

being bloated has been the biggest problem of all their 90s and onward material

for me even st anger would be substantially less disagreeable if theyd just left out the last couple tracks

the perfect soundtrack for dreaming of getting tatted up, joining a biker gang, & havin' a good ol' independence day barbecue

I love that haha, songs like Ronnie and 2x4 would accent a good ol' outlaw barbeque soundtrack pretty well.

2x4 is just such a grimy stompfest. can't imagine not at least enjoying it for the goofiness of it.

I'm also not above admitting that this album came out when I was 10 years old and basically gobbling up ANY metal, no matter how fringe. And back then, if I bought a CD, I had to like it because it didn't happen that often. BUT I already had ride -> Black, so its not like the change didn't blindside me a bit too.

Until it Sleeps' video was probably the first thing that really grabbed me, and then the two bangers that we've all come to love. After that, damn near every other song fell into place.

today is apparently my six-year sputiversary, which means I've been arguing that Load rules on this site for about six years.

My problem with this is that it is definitely a product of its time. Songs like 2x4 and The House Jack Built sound more like early Alice In Chains than Metallica. Other songs, as Log S. accurately stated, sound like "soundtrack of dreaming of getting tatted up, joining a biker gang".

I grew up in these times, and I remember listening to Load/Reload/Garage Inc. after watching Terminator 2 and playing Road Rash as a kid. Just those days, man. It's too 90's for me to enjoy it fully nowadays. It's odd to explain because I have no nostalgia for this at all as with other albums I listened to at the time. It has slightly less filler than Reload so it gets a pass. Plus, Until It Sleeps stands as a classic Metallica song worth of putting beside anything they released prior to this era.
