just as a cover, the Leviathan cover was ok but the entire painting is amazing, whereas the cover for Remission is simple but my favorite

Blood mountain is probably the weakest in terms of artwork imo

This was the first Mastodon I heard so that might have something to do with it. I just feel like this has the best replay value, not to mention it's a fun album to jam.

It's just not as...I hate to use the word cohesive, but it's not a smooth listen. The riffs are
chunky and lumbering through Curl of the Burl, then it gets super intense but Blasteroid ends
awkwardly as if they ran out of ideas beyond a verse and chorus, then Stargasm is full of those
legato nasal vocals and doesn't make a damn bit of sense, then Octopus Has No Friends (what the
fuck?) is upbeat and happy and a pretty decent song, and then they kill the momentum with the title
track that seems very misplaced. And so on and so forth. There are some good songs for sure, but I
find it harder to enjoy cover-to-cover than any of their other albums.

Seven, you jam Remission yet?

Yes but I don't know it as well yet. Leviathan, Blood Mountain, and Crack the Skye all really hit me hard but Remission is a work in progress. I love "Trilobite" and "Ol'e Nessie" in particular though.
