RIP has those awful Mustaine vocals which ruin everything. I hope you're all taking those into your calculations.

@Lucca Nah, but it is amazing. The lyrics stop making sense like half-way through...which is a real shame since it starts off so strong. Dave often struggles to drive a cohesive point across. Same with "In My Darkest Hour" which had the potential to be the greatest song ever.

dave's vox aren't even that bad on the original, it's the 2004 release that has him fucking everything up
just try and listen to take no prisoners from the 2004 version, it's intolerable

Agreed, out of context both performances are weak. However, they fit perfectly within RiP and RtL.

@mano
oh don't get me wrong they both fit the style exceptionally well but it seems silly to bash RIP's vox in defense of RtL's

not really

I doubt the vocals are the reason people would prefer this to RIP. They're certainly not for me

James sings better on the next two albums, but this is still better vocally than RIP. James on KEA is as weak as Dave though. I don't see how just because it's metal played at 200 bpm we should exclude vocals from our factors of critique.

no songs/versions of stuff from RIP have heavy production either. Fight Fire With Fire will smash your house with a wrecking ball, whereas nothing on RIP sounds even remotely threatening. Sure it riffs, but it's not heavy.

Hetfield was a great thrash vocalist I don't care what anyone says. And I actually really love his vocals on Kill 'Em All, they have so much energy and they fit the sound and vibe of that album so well.
Also, once you get used to them, Dave's vocals on Rust in Peace actually add to the character of the album. It's almost impossible to imagine that album without Mustaine's snarling, almost cynical sounding vocal delivery.

That's definitely something this has over RIP, as well as the dark atmosphere that was mentioned earlier, but RIP will always be best thrash imo
