Yeah I’ve seen it with a few bands & it’s mostly at odds with their fan-base & their opinions. Like you say, too close to their work to remain (somewhat) impartial.
There are maybe exceptions though, Mogwai were one band that said an earlier album was best (& I agreed on that occasion).
