It's obviously a taste thing. For me, I really don't like Crack the Skye much at all. It signalled their journey into much more conservative music. I do like Ghost of Karelia though.

I wouldn't say 'conservative' necessarily but it is less experimental and embraces well-trodden prog rock tropes more emphatically, whilst moving away from their sludgy roots & that is definitely a reason to prefer one over the other
the quartet of albums post-CtS delve into the territory of various watered-down incarnations of their predecessors. I mean EoS is just 'what if CtS was underwhelming', c'mon. I guess The Hunter has elements of this wilder era despite being a more accessible package overall, but it just fails to deliver
