That superb 30th anniversary gig has pushed me into Opeth mood.
This should have a 4.5 average.

Indeed.
Great that you liked the show so much! We want more details.

Love the aesthetic of this album but man I feel like the writing is not all that interesting compared to the previous 2

They felt completely re-energized live! It was their best show in years for me.
New drummer was very tight and very good, a nice fit (although he was a little less jazzy but that might be the live setting).
Eternal Rains was one of the highlights and Black Rose Immortal was a mega highlight too. Mikael said they loved playing it.
Hearing this cross section of their whole career made me realize again how very good they are.
There should be a more Cauda centric live show one day since Allting was amazing.

Sounds excellent Trif.
They were the best band in the world for many years.

With how unpredictable mikael can be I wouldn't be surprised to see a return to the metal on newer albums, he really seemed to enjoy playing all the old stuff on this tour.

'With how unpredictable mikael can be I wouldn't be surprised to see a return to the metal on newer albums, he really seemed to enjoy playing all the old stuff on this tour.'
yeah, he definitely went through a phase of not being all that into da metulz and wanting to move on from it, like his enthusiasm for that era had all but evaporated
Personally, I'm not sure I need any more growlypeth in my life, sometimes these things are best left in the past, but if it's what he wants, then it'd be intriguing to see what they come up with.
If it does ever come to fruition, then I imagine it would break the internet (or at least our corner of it, lol)

'Love the aesthetic of this album but man I feel like the writing is not all that interesting compared to the previous 2' (2)
I love this, yet as I direct comparison, agreed
'Morningrise writing was a (great) mix of engagingly adventurous and fascinatingly non-existent, let's be real'
...although despite that, this statement is still somehow simultaneously true and irrelevant to my vast enjoyment of the album
Orchid tho? Perfection

First three all 5.0s omg yes.
Agreed about the drummer being good and the missing Axe. And with this "sometimes these things are best left in the past, but if it's what he wants, then it'd be intriguing to see what they come up with".
Many truths have been spoken.
Yes PHERO they are!!!!!!!!!! Listen to Wreath for instance!!!!!!!!!!!!

His feigned insecurity is exquisitely charming.
Also UGH this album. It's still my fave of my fave Opeth albums. On most days anyway.

I wouldn't be surprised to see metal opeth come back soon. I kinda feel like his king crimson revival phase has nearly run its course and with him wanting to play the old stuff live... it seems he may feel that way too

Yeah, had to bump this. Demon of the Fall is an absolute masterpiece.
I can see them returning to their heavier style or at least partially (like Watershed). I hope they do.
