C'mon Lambs. That then makes you just as worse as the people you're criticising for exaggerating/proclaiming this as an 'all-time classic'.

why cuz i consider Doctors Advocate a 5?

no i just think not enough people played it enough or gave it enough of a chance to realize how good it actually is (or how it excels, which is mostly in candidness, honesty and energy), not that im irrationally rating it based on personal subjectivity.

Nah man, I meant how you lowered your opinion of this album just because it's receiving critical acclaim from all corners (paraphrasing of course).

This isn't a classic yet. A classic is something that has influence, its only been like 2 weeks so people who say this is a hip hop classic, don't know what they are talking about. Kendrick even said this isn't a classic, you have to see if this stands the test of time and has influence on others going forward, or people look back and see this as a milestone for a genre. Like Illmatic or Straight Outta Compton or The Low End Theory or Strictly Business or Enter The Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) or The Chronic/Doggystyle or Eric. B & Rakims stuff or Run DMC (you get the picture) . classic albums don't have a number rating for me.

it's not just other people's opinions, its what those opinions have done to Kendrick's attitude, he hasn't handled success well at all, hes using his voice to divide people while he is pretending to be some great unifier like 2pac, and now hes making albums about how well he handles success.

theres a lot of shit that bothers me about this album, thats just one example of many of the phony feel I get at times from kendrick, sometimes im in a mood where I don't really care and can just enjoy the talent he puts in his music, but other times his personality annoys me and i have to drop my rating cuz of that

@Ritvik, I love how you mentioned 'Strictly Business'. Props.

Fair enough Lambs. For me, I tend to leave personal stuff like that out of the music simply because I don't actually know the artist from that point of view. What do you mean by 'using his voice to divide people ' tho?

@pappy He is perpetuating an anti-white racist mentality where he describes modern day US discrimination as racist, when that view is counterproductive, and is much better described as classist or crony-ist.

Hmmm, I'm not quite sure about that.

Obviously I'm an outsider (the U.K. has its own problems with racial discrimination), but recent years have seen several high-profile cases/instances in the U.S. with regards to race-relations/discrimination and I think Kendrick is well within his right to address this from his point of view. Things are not really getting better, right?

high profile cases -=- the cases actually being instances of racism, and not just the media being sensational. Race relations have gotten drastically and continuously better since the 70s

but anyway iive been warned about talking about this on the music forums so if you want to talk about the politics of this album do it on PNWI forums here for me please

but yeah its not even the subject matter by itself that bothers me with this album, listen to MF Grimm - AMerican Hunger, its about the same things but he puts it in context a lot better
