I can't believe I'm just now listening to this. Can't see me dropping a 5 on this, least not atm but goddamn this is still really exceptional. Why did I avoid this for so long? Strange

"one of my college professors slept with tim, can confirm he was very horny lol. she had some great stories about him and joplin"

wow, those are some interesting anecdotes to be able to call upon, and I appreciate the concrete evidence, lol

I was contemplating whether I would be able to enjoy Tim's music due to his rep tbh, but I started by checking out Star Sailor and man, the guy was so talented that I will let the music speak for itself (and I'm glad to be of that mindset)

Kinda strange that a professor brags about sleeping with an artist but what do i know

makes them more relatable and cool to all the horny students, idk

and for a moment they're young again, basking in the glory of yesteryear. Nostalgic for a time before society cast them aside

I’d rather professors slept with Janis Joplin and Tim Buckley than their students, so good on them.

Anyone saying they wouldn't sleep with Tim in his virile and poetic prime is a liar.

I was contemplating lowering my (historical) rating for mild consistency issues but that one is an eyesore? - I guess we know which ‘Buck you fuck with’ (just continuing the theme here)

I haven’t heard this in years tho

Not much of a brag really just a 70+ year old reflecting on her past when we were doing coursework on the diggers/60s communes (elective humanities class). I don’t think anyone other than me even knew who he was. She played his live performances of honeyman and dolphins on youtube. She’s a legend at that school.

why is this album so loud? And why are there numerous cases of overdone bells & whistles on every damn song? Too many “big” alt rock parts, cut those out please (it almost ruins Grace and Last Goodbye isn’t good)

Forgetting the production and “overstuffing” issues. Lilac Wine is pretty. Hallelujah is still a great rendition. The opening segment of Mojo Pin works well. Corpus Christi is nice.

Oh, Eternal Life sucks, but everyone knows that

One of the biggest one listen drops offs I’ve ever experienced tbh

Didn’t know this was a Doof 5.

Always had a bit of mystic about it, Hallelujah is incredible but as a package it’s overrated

It went from a 4 to a 4.5 to a 5 since I've been here.

Part of that is simply I have more 5s now, but also as a result of having listened to a lot more music the old classics stand out that bit more against the large amounts of more 'ordinary' and dull stuff I've given a go. I try not to think of that as too negative a thing, but retrospectively I've awarded about twenty 90s albums from back in the day 5 status in just the last 12-18 months.

I did revisit the album a lot about three years ago and I thought it was immense, hit a lot more than it used to for me.

Lilac Wine might be even better than Hallelujah, and stuff like the title track and So Real are none more 90s, bedfellows to The Bends ballads etc. I was quite reluctant to bump it but in the end I realised I was being precious not 5'ing it.
