She Painted Fire is excellent as the whole trilogy and one of their best. In the Shadow of our Pale Companion and Falling Snow are basically tied for my favorite. Fire Above, Ice Below and Embers are up there too.

On the differences between ISIS/CoL: They’re similar in many regards — particularly both bands early works. However, while CoL dug deeper into crushing marches and perfected that mechanical feel over time, ISIS’ last two albums feel more organic. Songs ‘swim’ through different segments and the band seemed more playful with more novel song structures and odd time signatures. All in all, I put CoL a little closer to the doom/sludge end of the spectrum and ISIS a tad closer to prog.

I would say that the CoL singer is a better growler, but I haven't heard him actually sing yet, so melodic diversity advantage goes to Aaron as of now.
