You missed out on an experience of a lifetime, Kris bud. Hearing Pearl Jam's "Ten" in late 2014, Danny dude aged 15 is blown away by the sound coming out of his speakers.

Dirt didn't hit me instantly, I had to turn to Jar Of Flies first to fully get into Alice In Chains. After that, I put on Dirt again and it finally made sense. Now it's one of my favorite albums.

@daniel Yeah, but that's not life-changing or anything. The way zak puts it, it sounds like listening to Nevermind gave him the greatest epiphany he ever had. Music didn't do that to me and I seriously doubt it ever will.

Joy Division's Closer - definitely the record that comes closest to that for me - is amazing, mesmerizing and I can relate to it on every fucking level there is, but it wasn't exactly what I'd call an eye-opener, even more so as it gets better with almost every listen, which kind of undermines the whole "blown away the first time I listened to it" thing.

See there's the mind blowers, the elevators to a new level/experience, the one offs, the hard hitters and growers that are forever cherished and never bettered (they're never looked for Kris they just happen) and thankfully they still happen to this day but this band were something else.

Whatever 'it' was still seems to resonate with the kids now but when 'it' happened at that time it was truly indescribable.

That's not me looking back through rose tinted specs either. I clearly remember being overwhelmed, mouth agape astonished. Maybe I'm just a bit simple minded but fuck it.

Yeah, regardless of the band, album or song that hits you that way, it's a memorable feeling. It doesn't necessarily happen when you want it to, it happens when it's supposed to, that's what makes it special.

Jesus footy. My experience of Siamese Dream was slightly different. I was holed up in bed with the flu and wanted desperately to finish the album cos I was loving it but my head was banging so had to turn it off before the end.

It's one of me faves though.

Man, Soccer dude, I'm glad you turned out okay. I heard it a rainy afternoon for the first time, and found myself coming back to it over and over again, I could relate to it on so many levels, it spoke to me immensely.

Glassjaw's Worship and Tribute got me through a huge period of depression from a messed up relationship. I mean, I still got kicked out of college, but I ended up meeting one of my best friends during that year off, and I still went back and finished my degree.

The closest I'd have to an awakening was Regina Spektor's Soviet Kitsch. Before that I used to be one of those 14-year old goth/emo kids who listened to pop punk and metalcore and nothing else. I would shit on pop music and softer music like folk and indie for no reason, until I heard this, which blew my mind. Any album I'd heard before that was considered emotional was either angsty or depressed, and it taught me that albums can be soft and loud and sad and happy at the same time. This was only about three years ago, but I can safely say that only about 1% of the stuff I listen to now is stuff I listened to, or would have listened to, back then.

Imagine The Black Parade x 10000000000 and you'd be getting close to the impact of this thing.

I remember when I was really young and I'd never even heard this album but it was absolutely everywhere, my parents had it, friends' parents had it in their car, I used to see posters dotted about on walls and in HMV.

My dads taste hasn't moved on from 60s and 70s soul. He thinks everything else is absolute dross. Top bloke!
