It's definitely gonna be weird relistening to any of their albums now. Sucks too, because I didn't get into them until 2017, and they ended up being my best musical discovery that year (along with Tegan and Sara). So I didn't even get much time to enjoy their work before this happened :[

its weird man. in the few short exchanges i had with him, he was super nice and soft spoken but at the same time he just radiated this incredible intensity where i felt a little uncomfortable
|
| |
apparently the image he portrayed was carefully curated. he went through great lengths to keep every bad thing he did under wraps

"Sincerely, as much as this saddens me it doesn't remove a single bit of Neurosis's legacy and cult status in my head. Art is always separated from the artists in my head. Many many cases of very bad people producing great art, items, stupid shows everyone sees... Also since there are 4 other people involved I find it unfair for them."
Whoever wrote that is right on the money. I've just listened to GTTR and I enjoyed it as much as I always have.
Plus they always said Neurosis is an entity beyond any of the individual members and that's also how I view it.

Imagine reading that shit and being like “I feel like jamming neurosis rn” tho

Also I’m ngl guys I think it’s a bit distasteful when people see allegations against bands they like and take it super personally and make it about themselves. I understand deez actually somewhat had a relationship of sorts with these guys so that’s a bit different but it rubs me the wrong way seeing people being like “I’m so deeply broken and disturbed, I’ve been losing sleep” etc etc like yeah imagine how his wife and child feel. This is about them, not you. I understand having a personal attachment to artists and feeling let down discovering that they are pieces of shit but idk man it’s just kinda gross when people act like the actions of someone they don’t even know has rocked them to their very core rather than focusing on the real victims. It’s the wrong focus. I really don’t like when people make other peoples struggles about themselves. It’s like emotional vampirism.
Just my two cents.

Definitely hard to disassociate such a deep admiration for a person and their work after a couple decades but that’s absolutely right. I had a kneejerk reaction on the other thread and mentioned some personal stuff but it was related to this man’s work and it was through that same work he deceived everyone. It reverberated to all fans who learned of his crimes but much worse damage was done.

I appreciate you getting what I’m saying. I don’t want to start any beef about it, I just think it’s something that people need to think about

I really like all of you guys anyway

It happens when artists die a lot too. People being like “I am emotionally devastated, I’ve been crying all day I don’t know how I’ll go on” etc it’s like “bruh these people have actual family members and shit, they are real people
To be clear I don’t think there is anything wrong with collective grieving and paying respects to a public figure, it’s just the “I” and “Me” statements that get me
I imagine If my partner was famous and she died and I went online and saw people that didn’t even know her saying stuff like that I’d be pretty tiffed
