So last night I came to terms with the fact that I still love this album despite Lacey's transgressions

I like it a lot more after the allegations
Lyrics a lot more humorous now cast in their true context
Might bump to a 5

"So last night I came to terms with the fact that I still love this album despite Lacey's transgressions"
That makes sense given that you (I'm assuming) developed a deep appreciation for this long before the allegations. It's why people tend to associate Science Fiction with his actions (and find it hard to listen to), even though they happened over a decade prior. Perception is a funny thing.

Sowing you just opened my fuckin eyes man, I often struggle to listen to Science Fiction, and one song off Deja (you know which one), but anything else I can listen to without thinking about the allegations. It still sucks though, Brand New are really important to me, Jesse was someone I looked up to and thought very fondly of, it was like finding out your dad is a pedophile

Yeah once I found out it was true I probably didn't listen to SF for a few months.
Me vs. Maradona vs. Elvis is an odd one for me. I'm well aware of what the lyrics mean now, but back when I first listened to Deja and connected with that song I don't think I did? I know that sounds absurd but I was pretty sheltered growing up and I never really grasped the implications of it. I always interpreted it as both of them being drunk ("Number nine with my head on the bar"), him being rock-bottom sad/broke/pathetic ("it's sad but true, out of cash and IOUs"), and being dead inside emotionally ("Lie for fun and fake the way I hold you / Let you fall for every empty word I say"). It's weird to think I actually related to that, used to scream the chorus when it would kick in for the last time. I don't know how I so willingly overlooked lyrics like "I got desperate desires and unadmirable plans / My tongue will taste of gin and malicious intent", but again, at sixteen or so, I just didn't fully grasp what the song could mean, I just made it into what I wanted it to mean.

listening to this RIGHT NOW
I find the album doesn't live up to the myth - I prefer the idea of this being such a huge album here - in reality it sounds like a feeble watered down mix of Modest Mouse and Jimmy Eat World that's just incredibly boring if you aren't emotionally invested to the hilt like you nostalgia-mongers
I guess I'm saying I wish this was worse than a 2 out of 5 rating - so I could moan about not being album to slam a 1/5 on it - but the truth is it's not even bad in any fun way. It's a 2 out of 5. The ultimate 2 out of 5.

Only my third full listen - it'll most likely be my last ever full listen of the album.
I was so hoping the opener was worse than I remember so I could laugh at Sowing but even that's a 2 out of 5 sorta deal. 2 out of 5. Gotta hate 2 out of 5.
How is this the most important album on the site? At a loss.
Limousine is genuinely pretty horrible at least - some Mars Volta style mewling going on at times. Could slap a 1.5 on that one.

lmao how is the opener a 2/5? like...what? what do you consider a 5/5 song? this thing just explodes into energy, making it such a perfect opener. the "I'm not your friend" part alone makes this a great song. so much emotion.
