I never heard anything "pleasant" in Scissor Lock personally. The closer I've been to sleep paralysis has been waking up a few times paralyzed and feeling spooky stuff (noises, touches, teeth gnashing) and having a recurring nightmare connected to that. Which is nothing compared to the real thing, and yet it's enough for that song to give me shivers

yeah Scissor Lock never really struck me as pleasant - it's got that brooding, eerie vibe the whole way through, especially the bit with the spoken word samples

"Beautful washes of pulsating color
Buzzing white noise
It sounds like one hundred bees
I too once thought the radio played
Let's act like children while we sleep paralyzed...
Pulsing
You control it
Body's asleep
And your mind is awake"
Idk.. That just doesn't sound scary to me. But it's still a beautiful song. It just seems to almost make it into a psychedelic experience from the lyrics from what I hear. My experiences never left me with beautiful colors or having any control. Just gotta ride out a nightmare come true, which is basically what it is. I try to remind myself exactly what's going on when it happens to me, but sometimes it's hard to do because it's like being in a dream sometimes. Just like when you're unsure if you're dreaming or not, sometimes you're unsure what's going on during sleep paralysis. Like you know you're paralyzed and conscious and seeing weird stuff, but you're not even sure you're still on the planet to try to reassure yourself lol. It's hard to explain

This shit was absolutely my jam in high school. It's been a few years since I listened. I think it's time to revisit this.

Original CDs are compressed to oblivion, the SACD is another world. There is also the vinyl version, but I never heard it and I probably never will if they don't press it again

@Gyromania: yes. In fact, we're listening two different albums. El Cielo give its best with the lyrics, and they can really make the difference. There's also a SACD version that is literally another (better) album. Listened to the right format and knowning the meaning of what they're saying, it's almost impossible to dislike it.

I lowered my rating for this. It's still pretty good, but not the groundbreaking album I wanted it to be back in '10-'11.
